Day 1: To Travelers Rest Kisoro
Early morning start (7 AM) for a long drive. Via Masaka, Mbarara we reach Kabale for lunch. From here the bad road takes us through a beautiful landscape called the "Switzerland of Africa". We pass mountains, hills and lakes with cultivated terraces, tropical rainforest and bamboo forest.
On the last hill the landscape unfolds beneath us, in the vast plane of Uganda, Rwanda and Congo the Virunga volcanoes dominate the view. Down is Kisoro where we will stay in the famous Travelers Rest Hotel.
Just outside Kisoro, this unique hotel offers a cozy stay for the tourists, who come to see the endangered mountain gorilla. The hotel, built in a somewhat colonial style. In the sixties the famous American ‘gorilla-woman’ Dian Fossey visited Hotel Travelers Rest many, many times to do paperwork, to relax or to meet people. Fossey said about the hotel: ,,It was my second home."

Day 2: Gorilla tracking/Mountain climbing/Village walk
The day of Gorilla tracking (it can also be on day 3 depending on the availability of the permits)
From Travelers Rest in Kisoro it is 1 hour by car to the starting point in Rwanda and 55 minutes to Magahinga and 1 hour to Nkuringo group in South Bwindi.

Day 3: Gorilla tracking/Mountain climbing/Village walk
The Virunga Volcanoes offer a good opportunity to climb their peaks or to have a nice walk through the tropical rainforest and bamboo forest on theirs slopes. Most challenging is the perfect shape cone of the Muhavura Volcano ( 4127 m).
Walks around Kisoro town will give you a view of the village life.

Day 4: To Nyungwe Forest
At 07.30 (06.30 Rwanda time!!) we will leave for the border on our travel to Nyungwe Forest. Via Ruhengeri we will reach Butare for lunch. Butare has a very nice museum, well worth a visit! After lunch we will continue to Nyungwe Forest. The tarmac road takes us across the whole forest, with beautiful viewings of the park and the surrounding hills.
We will stay at the ORTPN guesthouse or the campsite within the park.

Day 5: At Nyungwe Forest
Nyungwe Forest is one of the most biologically rich Afro montane forests remaining in central Africa. It is home to 13 types of primate, over 275 species of birds of which 25 are endemic, 270 species of trees and shrubs, 100 varieties of orchids and a suite of large mammals including elephants, leopards, servals, golden cats, bush pigs and black-fronted duiker.
In the forest is a network of 50 km of forest hiking trails. These footpaths access a divers array of plant and animal live, access to numerous waterfalls and provide the hiker with dramatic panoramic views. There are 10 marked trails and the experienced guides will let you see and know the wonders of the African Tropical rainforest. An Eldora do for hikers and nature lovers!!

Day 6: To Akagera National Park
Early morning departure to Akagera national park. From the high altitudes of Nyungwe Forest (3000 m) we gradually go down to the valley where the Akagera river meanders and creates a beautiful landscape of lakes, marsh, hills and all the living animals in it. When we reach in time we will do a late evening game drive.

Day 7: At Akagera National Park
The whole day of game drives in the park. Although it has not the amount of animals found in other big game parks in Africa, it has a great variety of animals to see: elephants, zebra, giraffe, buffalo and many more. In the lakes there are many hippos, crocodiles and a diversity of water birds. It is possible to camp anywhere in the park and to make hikes in the park. Very soon they will also start again with boat rides on the lakes and the Akagera river.

Day 8: To Kampala
After early breakfast, the last part of the journey will bring us through the park to the border with Uganda and after crossing, back to Kampala.
We will bring you to a guesthouse, campsite or hotel. If you continue your holiday somewhere else or back home; we bring you to Entebbe airport for an onwards flight.
